ABUJA, NIGERIA – In a bid to ensure uniformity in the practice of emergency medical services nationwide, the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System(NEMSAS) organised a two-day workshop at the Palladium office, No 20 Port Harcourt Crescent, Garki, Abuja, Nigeria.
The workshop aimed to carefully review, align, and approve the draft National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Pre-Hospital Clinical Standard Operating Procedures. The goal is to ensure that the guidelines are based on scientific evidence, suitable for Nigeria’s healthcare environment, practical for emergency responders to implement, consistent with international best practices, and capable of meeting the emergency healthcare needs of Nigerians.
The workshop, which took place on the 18th and 19th of June 2026, had in attendance experts in various fields of emergency medical services nationwide, like Prof. Faruk Buba, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, Prof. Elizabeth Ogboli Nwasor, Prof. Tahir Chibado, Prof. Ahmed Ibrahim Gadam, Prof. Abdul Adogie, Prof. Jamil Tukur, and Prof. Abubakar Danladi Sadiq.
Others are Dr. Okoye Godfrey, Dr. Olarenwaju Sulaimon, Dr. Joy Isikima, Dr. Fatima Abdullah I and Lt. Cmdr. Dr. Babajide Aderoba.

While speaking to the press at the sidelines of the event, the National Programme Manager of NEMSAS, Dr. Doubra Emuren, who also doubles as Secretary to the National Emergency Medical Treatment Committee(NEMTC), Chaired by Prof. Ismail Musa Jibrin, told correspondents that NEMSAS has been set up to ensure standardisation in access to emergency medical services for all Nigerians, especially the poor and vulnerable. Dr. Doubra Emuren noted that the workshop was meant to design a standard operating procedure to ensure uniformity in emergency medical services nationwide.
The two-day workshop was tailored by NEMSAS in conjunction with NEMTC, with the latter represented by Dr. Bala Abubakar, Technical Advisor to the Chairman NEMTC.
The programme also reviewed the emergency medical services framework in Nigeria to identify gaps, overlaps, inconsistencies, and areas requiring clarification, improvement, or strengthening to enhance the effectiveness and quality of emergency care delivery.
