ABUJA — Mrs. Diseye Nsirim, a former Commissioner of Police and prominent politician from Bayelsa State, has died at the age of 69.
Nsirim, who hailed from the Igbedi/Sabagreia community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, died in Abuja after a prolonged battle with ill health.
She made history as the first female Commissioner of Police from Bayelsa State, a distinction she held as no other woman from the state has, to date, attained the rank of Commissioner of Police.
During her distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force, Nsirim served as Commissioner of Police in Niger State, among other professional assignments, before her retirement.
Following her retirement from the police, she became active in partisan politics under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She was a governorship aspirant of the party in Bayelsa State and also contested for the APC ticket to represent Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Nsirim remained a card-carrying member of the APC until her death.
Her death marks the passing of a pioneering female police officer from Bayelsa State and a notable figure in the state’s political landscape.
Her passing is mourned by her family, the Igbedi/Sabagreia community, former colleagues in the Nigeria Police Force, political associates and members of the APC across Bayelsa State.
